AAPS PharmSci 360 Closing Plenary Showcases Practical AI Insights
Senior Pharma Leader to Draw from Case Studies

Arlington, VA—Certara Senior Vice President and Head of Quantitative Systems Pharmacology Piet van der Graaf, Pharm.D., Ph.D., will offer practical insights into how companies can apply AI to drug development during the closing plenary at AAPS PharmSci 360, Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 4:15 p.m.

Dr. Van der Graaf perspective has developed over his career, which includes leadership in Certara, a provider of model-based drug development software and AI-based solutions for medical writing, clinical outcomes analysis, drug target identification, and market intelligence. He has also held numerous roles involving pharmacokinetics and pharmacology, including leadership positions at Pfizer. From 2013-2016, he was Director of Research at the Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research.

After a look at how companies already use AI to design molecules, Dr. van der Graaf will discuss what could come next in AI-driven drug development. He believes predicting pharmacokinetics, something he considers “the next level of complexity,” could be the next leap. In addition, he believes AI has the potential to assist in determining which molecules will lead to effective treatments.

Case studies will provide applicable information that drug development scientists can use in their own research.

“AI has the potential to greatly change the drug development process when utilized effectively. Dr. van der Graaf’s presentation will delve into the advanced complexities of predicting pharmacokinetics, which is an important component in drug development,” AAPS 2024 PharmSci 360 Scientific Programming Committee Chair Amit Desai, Ph.D., said. “His talk will also offer valuable insights that could drive significant progress in identifying and developing new therapeutic candidates.”

PharmSci 360 will take place Oct. 20-23, in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the Salt Palace Convention Center. To learn more and to register, visit http://www.aaps.org/pharmsci360.
