AAPS Supports Credible Science in Pharmaceutical Research Literature
Peer Review Week is September 23-27
Arlington, VA—AAPS joins STEM organizations from across the breadth of the sciences in recognizing Peer Review Week, September 23-27, 2024. This week-long celebration highlights the value of peer review in ensuring credibility in research.
This year’s theme is “Innovation and Technology in Peer Review.”
Through its four peer-reviewed journals (The AAPS Journal, AAPS PharmSciTech, Pharmaceutical Research, and AAPS Open), AAPS supports ethical, credible science with the help of hundreds of scientist-volunteers who share their time and expertise through peer review. Independent peer reviewers for these publications are critical to assuring the quality of scientific research used in the development of products and therapies that improve global health.
“Engaging multiple peer experts whose experience matches the topic and scope of a submitted paper is essential to ensuring a robust peer review process. We rely on these peer experts to challenge authors on their writing, their statements, their methodology and their conclusions in an unbiased manner,” AAPS PharmSciTech Editor-in-Chief Robert O. (Bill) Williams III, Ph.D., said. “The result of the peer review process is the confidence that if the paper is published it will withstand further scrutiny from the scientific community."
“Peer review is the backbone of scientific publishing,” Pharmaceutical Research Editor-in-Chief Tonglei Li, Ph.D., said. “Without it, data could be misrepresented, experimental methods unchecked, conclusions misleading, and the very foundation of human knowledge crumble. We strive to thoroughly review every submitted manuscript by inviting several expert reviewers, to ensure the quality of Pharmaceutical Research—the journal I am responsible for—and also to help the author improve their work and, more importantly, elevate their scientific endeavors from this critical assessment.”
Scientists interested in reviewing submissions to the AAPS journals are encouraged to send their CVs to AAPS Publications Manager Matt Baughman at [email protected] for consideration. Information about AAPS’ peer-reviewed journals, including access, can be found at www.aaps.org/journals.

American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit association of more than 7,000 scientists and professionals employed in academia, industry, regulatory, and other research related to the pharmaceutical sciences worldwide. Its mission is to advance the capacity of pharmaceutical scientists to develop products and therapies that improve global health, which members pursue through four peer-reviewed journals and a variety of events in person and online. www.aaps.org
AAPS journals publish articles covering the breadth of pharmaceutical science, including complementary disciplines like chemistry, biology, and engineering. AAPS publishes four peer-reviewed journals: The AAPS Journal, AAPS PharmSciTech, Pharmaceutical Research, and AAPS Open. The latter is AAPS’ first fully open access journal. It is freely available worldwide, and authors retain copyright. All four are available with AAPS membership or through institutional access. www.aaps.org/journals
