President of Microsoft Research to Discuss New Technologies That Will Drive the Future of Drug Discovery

Arlington, VA—Peter Lee, Ph.D., President of Microsoft Research, will address how new advances in technologies such as AI and machine learning are transforming biotechnology in the closing plenary of the AAPS National Biotechnology Conference (NBC) on Thursday, May 16, at 3:15 p.m.

His presentation will examine the possibilities of these emerging capabilities to drive the development of novel modalities and the ethical considerations scientists will confront as they evaluate these innovative applications. Dr. Lee is interested in bridging the gap between life sciences teams and technologists to ensure future collaborative partnerships.

“AI has a strong potential to inform drug design,” AAPS 2024 NBC Scientific Programming Committee Chair Katie Maass, Ph.D., said. “I’m looking forward to learning more about Dr. Lee’s vision for how pharmaceutical scientists can embrace new technologies while also taking into account ethical and safety concerns.”

“Dr. Lee’s work has been at the intersection of computer science technologies and healthcare,” 2024 AAPS President Gopi Shankar, Ph.D., M.B.A., FAAPS, said. “The past five years have seen the rise of new modalities, and his closing plenary will offer a preview of the next five to ten years in our industry.”

NBC takes place May 13-16 in San Francisco, CA at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square. To learn more and to register, visit www.aaps.org/nbc.
