The Drug Transport focus group (DTFG) seeks to provide a communication network for all scientists interested in the role of transporters in the pharmaceutical sciences. DTFG participates actively in AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition program development, and since 2003, has held a biannual workshop that highlights the most cutting-edge translational research on drug transporters in absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion.
The goals of DTFG are to provide a forum for pharmaceutical scientists to exchange ideas on state-of-the-art techniques to study drug transport and to enhance knowledge about the mechanisms of action of drug transporters. Key areas of focus include:
- molecular and cellular characterization of transporters relevant to drug targeting and disposition,
- the role of transporters in toxicology and disease,
- development of methods for pharmacokinetic modeling and in vitro-in vivo correlation of drug transport, and
- dissemination of updates on regulatory requirements and concerns.
