In 2001, the AAPS Biotec Section began discussions with EAPB, the European Association of Pharma Biotechnology, and quickly recognized that the two groups had a lot in common. In 2002, these discussions culminated in a formal agreement to exchange articles, information, and programming opportunities. The EAPB consists of individual scientists, companies, and academic groups. EAPB aims to promote pharmaceutical biotechnology as an independent multidisciplinary science in the EU. EAPB seeks to promote co-operation and scientific exchange between the many disciplines involved in pharmaceutical biotechnology.
EAPB is involved in promoting pharmaceutical biotechnology in academia, as a part of the pharmacy curriculum. In addition, EAPB is working to help develop curriculum to ensure the future of pharmaceutical biotechnology by training PhD scientist and technicians in a variety of relevant disciplines.
Programming (conferences, workshops, expert meetings etc.) is another focus of EAPB. As a forum for exchange of experience and knowledge and for the promotion of the multidisciplinary co-operation EAPB seeks to cooperate with other scientific societies such as AAPS Biotec. Through this and other efforts, EAPB seeks to contribute to harmonisation of pharmaceutical biotechnology Europe. The EAPB also helps to establish a pharma biotech network in Europe.
EAPB has contributed to AAPS Biotec programming and our groups have exchanged content for our respective newsletters. Some of the Biotec Section leadership also serve on EAPB committees.
