The award is intended to recognize and promote the achievements of individuals that demonstrate innovation in the area of Biotechnology. The award is open to individuals who submit an abstract to the 2010 AAPS National Biotechnology Conference. Applicants do not need to be a member of AAPS.

      AAPS and Millipore are pleased to announce the Excellence in Ligand Binding Assays Award to be awarded at the 2010 AAPS National Biotechnology Conference, May 16-19, in San Francisco, California. This program is designed to recognize excellence in ligand binding assays within the pharmaceutical sciences. The award will promote the science and technology of ligand binding assays.
      Selection will be made based on the submitted abstracts and summaries of those individuals judged by the committee to have provided the most outstanding contributions in ligand binding assays within the pharmaceutical sciences.
      Any abstract that is submitted to the BIOTEC Section for the National Biotechnology Conference and employs ligand binding assay technology will be given consideration for the award. The primary presenting author will be awarded $1,000 and a plaque.

      AAPS and Eli Lilly and Company are pleased to announce the Graduate Student Symposium to be held at the 2010 AAPS National Biotechnology Conference, May 16-19, in San Francisco, California. The program is designed to recognize excellence in graduate education in the fields of pharmaceutical biotechnology. Students will be selected to participate in the symposium by the AAPS Selection Committee on the basis of abstracts submitted to the committee. Applicants in one of the above or associated fields of study may be nominated by their Ph.D. thesis advisor on the form provided. On the basis of submitted abstracts and summaries, students will be selected to present their research during the Graduate Symposium at the AAPS National Biotechnology Conference. Selection will be made on the basis of those students judged by the committee to have provided the most outstanding contributions in the above fields through their graduate research. Each student selected will receive a cash award of $250.00 and a complimentary National Biotechnology Conference registration. In addition, travel expenses will be reimbursed (maximum $1,000 domestic/$1,500 international) following the meeting.

Outstanding Manuscript Award in Modeling and Simulation  NEW!
(Deadline: July 9, 2010)

     The AAPS Outstanding Manuscript in Modeling and Simulation Award is intended to recognize outstanding achievement in modeling and simulation in clinical pharmacology and translational research as demonstrated by the author in the quality and originality of a manuscript published in any peer-reviewed journal. The submitted manuscript must have been published within 2 years prior to the meeting at which the presentation is made. The manuscript must have been published in a peer-reviewed journal, be written in English, and must relate to modeling or simulation in clinical pharmacology and translational research and can be applied or theoretical. The lead author will receive a $1,000 honorarium, a framed certificate which will be presented at the FIP PSWC/AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition, and travel expenses up to $1,000 to be paid as reimbursement following the meeting. If the lead author is a non-AAPS member, a one year complimentary AAPS membership will also be presented. If the lead author cannot attend the meeting, travel expenses will be paid to a designee who will accept the award on behalf of the lead author.

      The award is intended to recognize an AAPS member for the personal effort that he/she created and managed, preferably as a volunteer and not part of duties in a paid position, for a sustained community service effort (e.g., creating and running a long-term project that aids the needy in a community). Special consideration will be given to community service projects that not only help people in a community, but also train students for community service through active participation and leadership. This award will be bestowed biannually, and only when a worthy candidate is identified.
      The award winner will receive an engraved plaque, a $1,000 cash award, and $1,000 towards travel and housing expenses to attend the 2010 FIP PSWC/AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition, November 14 – November 18, in New Orleans, Louisiana. The award winner will be featured in a future issue of the AAPS Newsmagazine.


2010 AAPS Distinguished Service Award
(Deadline: May 7, 2010)

      This award is intended to recognize distinguished service in advancing the pharmaceutical sciences and the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. The nominee for this award will have had a long and productive career, as well as distinguished service reflected in extensive contributions to the pharmaceutical sciences (in any one or more of its subdisciplines, e.g., those represented by AAPS Sections) and to AAPS as an organization per se. Specific emphasis will be placed upon achievements that have materially influenced the advancement and progress of pharmaceutical sciences and AAPS.
      The award recipient will receive a $5,000 honorarium, an engraved plaque, a complimentary FIP PSWC/ AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition registration, and travel expenses (a maximum of $1,000 domestic/$1,500 international to be reimbursed following the meeting).

      This award recognizes excellence in education in the technologies related to pharmaceuticals. Nominees will be evaluated based on their contributions to contemporary teaching and scholarship in pharmaceutical technology and its related science. This award is presented biennially, but only when a worthy candidate is identified. The committee may recommend that the award not be presented in any given year.
      The recipient will receive $10,000, an engraved plaque and travel expenses (a maximum of $1,000 domestic and $1,500 international to be reimbursed after the meeting) to the 2010 FIP PSWC/AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition, November 14 – November 18, in New Orleans, Louisiana.       The AAPS Research Achievement Awards recognize outstanding scientists who have conducted fundamental research that has had significant impact in the fields of Analysis and Pharmaceutical Quality (APQ), Drug Design and Discovery (DDD), Formulation Design and Development (FDD), and Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics and Drug Metabolism (PPDM).
      Award recipients will receive a $2,000 honorarium, a framed certificate, complimentary registration to the FIP PSWC/AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition, and travel expenses (up to $1,000 domestic/$1,500 international) that will be reimbursed after the meeting.

      The award is a one-time grant of $25,000 to be used to support the research effort of an individual actively engaged in training graduate students and carrying out basic research in pharmaceutics, drug delivery, and/or the pharmaceutical technologies. Nominees must demonstrate a commitment to conduct research in basic pharmaceutics, dosage form design or the pharmaceutical technologies, and have the potential for outstanding achievement in teaching and research in these areas, as well as the potential to be future leaders in pharmaceutical education and research. Nominees must have less than 4 years of academic experience and less than 7 years total postdoctoral experience.
      The award consists of $25,000 (all funds must be provided to the researcher; none of the money may be used for university overhead, indirect or administrative costs), a certificate that will be presented to the award recipient at the 2010 FIP PSWC/AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition, and reimbursed travel expenses (up to $1,000 domestic/$1,500 international).

      The AAPS Formulation Design and Development Section and the AAPS Lipid-based Drug Delivery Systems Focus Group, through the generosity of Gattefossé, is sponsoring an annual award to acknowledge truly outstanding research promoting the application of lipid excipients in development of novel and effective drug delivery systems. The award focuses on recent significant contributions brought about by highly innovative research to understand and to effectively apply lipid excipients in the development of oral and topical dosage forms. The winner will be the individual judged to have provided the most outstanding contributions to the field through the current work. In the absence of eligible contributions, Gattefossé reserves the right to withdraw the award and/or to apply it to future meetings of AAPS. The awardee will receive a cash award of $10,000 and a commemorative plaque, along with a complimentary AAPS annual meeting registration and reimbursement of travel expenses ($1000 domestic/$1500 international) after the meeting.

      This award is intended to recognize outstanding regulatory scientists/professionals who have contributed significantly to the field of regulatory sciences. The frequency of the award will be once every two years. If there is a qualified individual in the specified year, the award will be presented at the AAPS Annual Meeting Opening Session.
      Nominations will be reviewed by the Regulatory Sciences Achievement Award Committee of a composition similar to other equivalent award committees, and the names of the eligible nominees will be forwarded to the AAPS Executive Council for final approval. The award is based on sustained professional competence, peer recognition, service, and leadership in regulatory sciences.
      The award may be sponsored, endowed or supported by an individual or a corporation. Private and corporate sponsors will be acknowledged at the time the award is distributed. Award recipients will receive a $2,000 honorarium, a framed certificate (which will be presented at the FIP PSWC/AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition, November 14 - 18, in New Orleans, Louisiana), and travel expenses (up to $1,000 domestic/$1,500 International) that will be reimbursed following the meeting.

      The AAPS Postdoctoral Fellow Award is given annually to one individual who has demonstrated excellence in his/her research work during a postdoctoral training period and shows exceptional promise in future contributions to pharmaceutical sciences. The award is based on the scientific merits of an abstract submission to the 2010 FIP PSWC/ AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition and recommendations of mentoring scientists. The award is open to both members and non-members of AAPS. The goal of this award is to encourage young investigators to broaden their training through postdoctoral research experience, to recognize the role and contribution of postdoctoral fellows in pharmaceutical research and development, and to cultivate the participation of postdoctoral fellows in AAPS activities.
      The award recipient will receive a framed certificate, $1,000 to be used for travel expenses and a complimentary 2010 FIP PSWC/AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition registration.

The paper must have been published at least two years prior to the meeting at which the presentation is made.
      Award recipients will receive a $2,000 honorarium (divided equally among the authors), a framed certificate that will be presented at the 2009 AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition, and travel expenses for the primary author (up to $1,000 domestic/$1,500 international).

      This award stimulates and encourages graduate students to prepare their research for publication in AAPS PharmSciTech. It also encourages graduate students to present their research at the 2010 AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition.
      Graduate students submitting their dissertation research who will have defended their research and completed requirements for the Ph.D. degree at their respective university within the year of the award are eligible to participate. There are no citizenship requirements for this award. Graduate students selected for this award will be asked to present their abstract in both poster and podium formats.
      Each student selected will receive a complimentary registration to the 2010 FIP PSWC/AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition, a commemorative plaque, and a cash award of $500. In addition, travel expenses will be reimbursed (up to $1,000 domestic/$1,500 international) following the meeting.

      Students in their third and/or final year of graduate studies leading to the Ph.D. degree will be selected on the basis of abstracts submitted to the committee.       There are no citizenship requirements for this award. All interested candidates are encouraged to apply. Your research may be submitted to only one AAPS graduate symposium committee for consideration or your submission will be disqualified from all symposia. Students must be in their final year of graduate studies leading to the Ph.D. degree (or will be awarded their Ph.D. in 2010).
      Only one application should be submitted from one major (thesis) advisor; and, at a maximum, no more than two recipients will be selected from the same institution in a given year.

      The International Pharmaceutical Excipient Council of the Americas Foundation (IPEC Foundation), is sponsoring five (5) annual scholarships to acknowledge excellence in research conducted at graduate level pertaining to the field of Excipients. The scholarships focus on recent significant contributions to formulation science and technology with excipients brought about by highly innovative research. The candidates selected will present their research at a poster session at the 2010 AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition, November 14 - 18, in New Orleans, LA. The scholarship winners will receive a cash award of $1,000. The recipient will also be awarded a complimentary AAPS annual meeting registration.       IPEC Foundation The Ralph Shangraw Memorial Award is to be given to any person that has provided an outstanding research in the study of excipients or excipient-related technology. This award recognizes research achievements broadly in the field of pharmaceutical excipients, including but not limited to, research that contributes to: (1) an understanding of the basic science underlying excipient functionality, (2) excipient safety, including the development of test methods and standards, (3) the development of new excipients or novel use of existing excipients in new applications, and (4), the development of rational compendial/regulatory standards for excipients. Recipients of this award will receive $10,000 from the IPEC Foundation for their efforts. The recipient will also be awarded a complimentary AAPS annual meeting registration.
