About
Although nanotechnology is a broad field of science, its application to pharmaceutical science and technology is equally broad, covering topics that span nearly every aspect of the interests of the AAPS membership. The unifying theme is the control of matter on a scale smaller than 1 micrometer, normally between 1–100 nanometers, as well as the fabrication of drug and gene delivery devices and diagnostics on this same length scale. It is a highly multidisciplinary field, which will eventually involve and be of interest to AAPS members from nearly every section and focus group.
Much speculation exists as to what new science and technology might result from nanotechnology initiatives and what impact it will ultimately have on our field and society in general. The overall goal of the Nanotechnology focus group is to introduce the concepts, approaches, issues, controversies, and current research progress of nanotechnology to the AAPS membership.
