Types of Meetings

Short Course:

A short course is defined as an educational endeavor, typically of lecture format, generally in which up to four prominent instructors introduce both the fundamental tenants and state-of-the-art practice of a particular or technique in a short period of time (preferably one day or less). Emphasis is placed on material suitable for those individuals newly entering the scientific field or returning to a field after a time of non-practice or non-application.

Short courses can be held in conjunction with the Annual Meeting, National Biotechnology Conference or separately. If held separately, the Program Coordination Committee (PCC) will review the proposal. Submit Short course proposals

Short courses held in conjunction with the Annual Meeting or the National Biotechnology Conference should be submitted to those respective sites.

Workshop:

A workshop is defined as an educational endeavor to stimulate discussion of a particular topic or technique. Workshops can be 1-3 days. They are generally very interactive with a substantial amount of time set aside for questions and answers and sometimes breakout sessions. Emphasis is placed on material suitable for those individuals working in the scientific field. Workshops have a regulatory aspect and generally produce a white paper, summary report, consensus report or an FDA guidance consideration.

Workshops are reviewed by the Program Coordination Committee (PCC). Submit Workshop proposals.

Themed Meeting:

A Themed Meeting is one particular topic that goes into depth and detail on the topic. Something you cannot do at the Annual Meeting or the National Biotechnology Conference. Arden House is the perfect example of a Themed Meeting.

Constraining speaker reimbursement is key. Committee will be given the budget and must live within the speaker budget.

Themed meetings are reviewed by the Program Coordination Committee (PCC). Submit Themed Meeting proposals.

Webinar:

A webinar, or web conference, is typically a 60-90 minute online PowerPoint lecture conducted by one to three speakers. A moderator serves as host and coordinates the key feature of web conferences, the Q&A period. Webinars save time and travel, and although they are presented live, an archived replay of the event is available 24/7.

Webinar proposals are reviewed by the Program Coordination Committee (PCC).
Prior to submitting the proposal, a telephone consultation is recommended; please contact Andrew M. Cohn, Senior Manager for Distance Learning, at +1.703.248.4799. Submit a Webinar proposal.

Training Program:

A training program is defined as an educational endeavor to train both the fundamental tenants and state-of-the-art practice of a particular or technique in a short period of time (three days or less). The program may be lecture, hands on application or a combination of both. Emphasis is placed on material suitable for those individuals newly entering the scientific field or returning to a field after a time of non-practice or non-application.

Training programs may be offered on an annual basis, several times in one year, at an educational facility, company, or in a hotel setting. Training programs can also be taped and offered as a Distance Learning option.

Training Courses are reviewed by the Program Coordination Committee (PCC).  Submit Training Course proposal
