About

The Dermatopharmaceutics focus group (DFG) was one of the first focus groups to be created within AAPS. The term "dermatopharmaceutics" was chosen as a descriptor to not only describe the various subject matter included under the heading of skin study but also to welcome all scientists and professionals involved with the development of skin products. The DFG was created to foster and advance the art and science of topical, transdermal, and skin drug delivery systems among focus group members and interested parties. With this in mind, the DFG provides and disseminates to its members information relating to matters of scientific, technical, and industry interest in the field of transdermal, topical, and skin drug delivery products, as well as the manufacturing and clinical aspects for the development of dermatopharmaceutic products. Additionally, the DFG organizes seminars and/or symposia in the general area of topical, transdermal, and skin-related drug delivery, new technologies, in vitro and in vivo methods, and regulations for dermatopharmaceutic products.

Our membership includes scientists interested in and/or involved with the study of skin and associated structures, skin permeation technologies, topical and transdermal product development, as well as cosmeceuticals, regulatory, and marketing of these pharmaceutical products. Our steering committee is composed of people from industry, academia, Food and Drug Adminstration (FDA), and student representatives.

Within the DFG, we support lateral discussion and exchange of ideas across different specialties in the areas of novel drug delivery methods, delivery formulations, clinical trial issues and regulatory sciences specific to topical, transdermal, and skin related drug delivery. The DFG also collects and disseminates such information as may be deemed of value. Additionally, the DFG fosters and encourages a spirit of friendly cooperation among its members and to promote favorable relations between its members and related health professionals.
