AAPS APQ Best Poster Award (NEW!)

The APQ section is pleased to offer a Best Poster Award for eligible individuals presenting a poster at the 2014 AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition to be held on November 26, in San Diego. The award consists of a $250 monetary award and a plaque/certificate for selected individual(s) (plaque for the lead author and certificate for the rest authors) presenting a poster pertaining to Analysis and Pharmaceutical Quality. AAPS Distinguished Service Award

The AAPS Distinguished Service Award is intended to recognize distinguished service in advancing the pharmaceutical sciences and the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. The nominee for this award will have had a long and productive career as well as distinguished service reflected in extensive contributions to the pharmaceutical sciences (in any one or more of its subdisciplines: e.g., those represented by AAPS Sections) and to AAPS as an organization per se. Specific emphasis will be placed upon achievements that have materially influenced the advancement and progress of pharmaceutical sciences and AAPS.

AAPS Outstanding Educator Award

The purpose of this award is to recognize excellence in education in the technologies related to pharmaceuticals. Nominees will be evaluated based on their contributions to contemporary teaching and scholarship in pharmaceutical technology and its related science.

Award recipient will receive a $10,000 honorarium, an engraved plaque which will be presented at the 2014 AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition, and travel expenses (maximum $1,000 domestic/$1,500 international), which will be reimbursed following the meeting. The recipient will also receive a complimentary meeting registration.

AAPS Research Achievement Awards

AAPS will be presenting Achievement Awards in the fields of Analysis and Pharmaceutical Quality (APQ); Drug Discovery and Development Interface (DDDI); Formulation Design and Development (FDD); Manufacturing Science and Engineering (MSE), Physical Pharmacy and Biopharmaceutics (PPB), and Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics, and Drug Metabolism (PPDM) during the 2014 Annual Meeting and Exposition. These awards are intended to recognize outstanding scientists who have demonstrated significant impact in their respective fields.

The Achievement Awards in Biotechnology (BIOTEC); Clinical Pharmacology and Translational Research (CPTR); and Manufacturing Science and Engineering (MSE) will be presented in 2015. 

RS Achievement Award

The Regulatory Sciences Achievement Award is intended to recognize outstanding regulatory scientists/professionals who have contributed significantly to the field of regulatory sciences. AAPS Dale E. Wurster Research Award

The purpose of this award is to recognize individuals who have made significant research contributions to the pharmaceutical sciences in the specific field of pharmaceutics. For purposes of this award, pharmaceutics is to be broadly defined to encompass such research areas as physical pharmacy, preformulation, dosage form design, formulations, biopharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics, etc. The recipient will receive $10,000 monetary award, an engraved plaque, travel expenses (a maximum of $1,000 domestic and $1,500 international to be reimbursed after the meeting) to attend the 2014 AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition and a complimentary registration. 

AAPS New Investigator Grant in Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technologies

The Manufacturing Science & Engineering, Formulation Design & Development, and Physical Pharmacy & Biopharmaceutics sections of AAPS annually sponsor a grant to support new academic researchers during the early stages of their careers. The award is a one-time grant of $10,000 to be used to support the research effort of an individual actively engaged in training graduate students and carrying out basic research in pharmaceutics, drug delivery, and/or the pharmaceutical technologies. Nominees must demonstrate a commitment to conduct research in basic pharmaceutics, dosage form design, or the pharmaceutical technologies, and have the potential for outstanding achievement in teaching and research in these areas, as well as the potential to be future leaders in pharmaceutical education and research. Nominees must have less than four years of academic experience and less than seven years of total postdoctoral experience.

AAPS Lipid Based Drug Delivery Outstanding Research Award

The AAPS Formulation Design and Development section and the AAPS Lipid-based Drug Delivery Systems focus group, through the generosity of Gattefossé, is sponsoring an annual award to acknowledge truly outstanding research pertaining to the application of lipid excipients in development of novel and effective drug delivery systems.The award focuses on recent significant contributions brought about by highly innovative research to understand and to effectively apply lipid excipients in the development of oral and topical dosage forms.The candidate selected will present his/her research at the 2014 AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition. The selectee will receive a cash award of $10,000 and a commemorative plaque, along with complimentary AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition registration and reimbursement of travel expenses ($1000 domestic/$1500 international) after the meeting.

AAPS Postdoctoral Fellow

The AAPS Postdoctoral Fellow Awards are given annually to three individuals who have demonstrated excellence in their research work during a postdoctoral training period and show exceptional promise in future contributions to the pharmaceutical sciences. The award is based on the scientific merits of abstract submission to the 2014 AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition, research accomplishments, and recommendations of mentoring scientists. The award is open to both current members and non-members of AAPS.  The winners will receive a certificate that will be presented at the 2014 AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition, November 2–6, in San Diego, a check for $1,500 to be used toward travel expenses to attend the AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition, and a complimentary Annual Meeting and Exposition registration.

Applicants should also submit their current curriculum vitae as part of their application.

General Eligibility Requirements  

Recipients for all travelships will be selected from all applicants that meet the following eligibility requirements.

  1. Currently enrolled as a full-time student.
  2. First author of an accepted abstract.
  3. Have been a member of AAPS since March 2014 with membership in the section to which you are applying: (Note: Please make certain that your section is correctly identified in the AAPS database by contacting AAPS Membership at +1.877.998.2277.)

Only one abstract submission per section member will be considered for each award. The accepted abstract must be submitted with title, authors, and text together with a complete online travelship application form.

PPDM Section Eligibility Requirements  

In addition to the general requirements listed above, the following apply:

  1. Multiple abstracts from one laboratory may be submitted, but only one award will be given to an individual laboratory.
  2. No more than two awards will be given to a single institution.

RS Section Eligibility Requirements 

In addition to the general requirements listed above, the following apply:

  1. Preference will be given to students enrolled in RA/QA programs.
  2. Those meeting these criteria who wish to participate must complete the online application form.

Deadline for all submissions: August 8, 2014

Applicants whose submitted papers are not accepted by the Paper Screening Committee will be removed from the eligible pool before the award selections are made.

The Neglected Global Diseases Initiative atthe University of British Columbiais pleased to offer two (2) travelships for eligible students presenting papers at the 2014 AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition to be held in San Diego, November 2–6.

  • Two (2) travelships for graduate/undergraduate students presenting papers pertaining to Pharmaceuticals in Global Health.
  • The award consists of: $500 for all students.

Eligibility Criteria  

Recipients will be selected from all applicants that meet the following eligibility requirements:

  1. Currently enrolled as a full-time student.
  2. Member of AAPS since March 2014 or earlier.
  3. First author of an accepted abstract pertaining to Pharmaceuticals in Global Health.
  4. Have the paper accepted by one of the nine AAPS sections for presentation at the 2014 AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition to be held in San Diego (November 2–6) where the student will be presenting.
  5. Have no other means of supplemental support to attend the meeting. There will be no way to prove the applicant has supplemental support to attend the meeting; therefore, this sentence will be based on no other awards or travelships received from AAPS.
  6. Be present at the Pharmaceuticals in Global Health focus group annual business meeting (date to be announced) in San Antonio to receive the award.

Selection Criteria  

Applicants whose submitted papers are not accepted by the Paper Screening Committee will be removed from the eligible pool before the award selections are made. An award subcommittee assigned by Pharmaceuticals for Global Health focus group chair will perform the selection as follows:

  • Preselection of abstracts already accepted by the AAPS screening committees for relevance to Pharmaceuticals in Global Health.
  • Make final selection from the short list.
  • Only papers pertaining to global health will be considered.

The Modified Release focus group (MRFG) is pleased to offer three travelships in the amount of $750 to eligible individuals presenting a paper at the AAPS 2014 Annual Meeting and Exposition in San Diego,November 2–6. The MRFG travelships are sponsored by Bend Research, Boehringer Ingelheim and Patheon.

Eligibility Criteria  

Recipients will be selected from all applicants that meet the following eligibility requirements:

  1. Currently enrolled as a full-time graduate student.
  2. Primary author/main contributor with justification of an accepted abstract.
  3. The applicant must be a member of AAPS at least since January of the year when the application is submitted, with membership in the MRFG at the time of application.
  4. Recipient must be present at the MRFG business meeting to receive the award. (Otherwise, award will go to the next finalist.)
  5. To support more students to present at the AAPS meetings, the MRFG travelship award is a one time award; previous winners will be excluded from selection process.

Application Procedure and Selection Criteria  

In addition to the general requirements listed above, the following apply:

  1. Primary selection criteria—The presented work needs to be above average work making a significant contribution in the modified/controlled/prescriptive release field. NOTE: The body of work should not extend to more than one poster/presentation.
    *Multiple posters will not be considered for the award.
  2. Complete online travelship application form (available at the AAPS Web site), including the abstract/presentation with title, authors, and text; together with a supporting letter and a detailed explanation by the advisor on the impact of the presented work to the field of modified/controlled/prescriptive release.
  3. MRFG award subcommittee will perform the selection by the following:
    • Prescreen applications together with applicant’s abstract already accepted by the AAPS screening committees.
    • Invite applicants on the short list to submit a draft or the full poster presentation in electronic file format (if available at the time short list candidates are notified).
    • Make final selections (including the full poster presentations if available) form applicants on the short list.
  4. Only one abstract/presentation submission per applicant will be considered for this award.
  5. Multiple abstracts from one university/school may be submitted, but only one award will be given to an individual institution each year.

  • Twotravelships for graduate/undergraduate students presenting papers pertaining to lipid-based drug delivery.
  • The award consists of: $600 for students based in United Statesand $800 for international students.

Eligibility Criteria 

Recipients will be selected from all applicants that meet the following eligibility requirements:

  1. Currently enrolled as a full-time student.
  2. Member of AAPS since March 2014 or earlier.
  3. First author of an accepted abstract pertaining to lipid based formulations/delivery.
  4. Have the paper accepted by one of the nine AAPS sections for presentation at the 2014 AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition to be held in San Diego (November 2–6) where the student will be presenting.
  5. Have no other means of supplemental support to attend the meeting.
  6. Be present at the LBDDFG annual business meeting (day to be announced) in San Antonio (November 2–6).

Selection Criteria  

Applicants whose submitted papers are not accepted by the Paper Screening Committee will be removed from the eligible pool before the award selections are made.

An award subcommittee assigned by LBDD focus group chair will perform the selection as follows:

  • Preselection of abstracts already accepted by the AAPS screening committees for relevance to lipid-based drug delivery.

Dermatopharmaceutics focus group (DFG) is pleased to offer one travelship up to $500 to an eligible individual presenting a paper at the AAPS 2014 Annual Meeting and Exposition inSan Diego,November 2–6. The DFG Travelship is sponsored by Mylan.

Eligibility Criteria 

The recipient will be selected from all applicants that meet the following eligibility requirements:

  1. Currently enrolled as a full-time graduate student.
  2. Primary author/main contributor with justification of an accepted abstract.
  3. The applicant must be a member of AAPS at least since March of the year when the application is submitted, with membership in the DFG at the time of application.
  4. Recipient must present the research in a 15 minute presentation at the DFG business meeting to receive the award. (Otherwise, award will go to the next finalist.)
  5. To support more students to present at the AAPS meetings, DFG travelship award is a one time award; previous winners will be excluded from the selection process.

Application Procedure and Selection Criteria 

In addition to the general requirements listed above, the following apply:

  1. Primary selection criteria—The presented work needs make a significant contribution in the dermatopharmaceutics field.
    *Note: The body of work should not extend to more than one poster/presentation. Multiple posters will not be considered for the award.
  2. Complete online travelship application form (available at the AAPS Web site), including the abstract/presentation with title, authors, and text; together with a supporting letter and a detailed explanation by the advisor on the impact of the presented work to the field of dermatopharmaceutics.
  3. DFG steering committee will perform the selection by the following:
    • Prescreen travelship applications together with applicant’s accepted abstract by the AAPS screening committees and create a short list.
    • Invite applicants on the short list to submit a draft or the full poster presentation in electronic file format (if available at the time short list candidates are notified).
    • Make final selections (including the full poster presentations if available) from applicants on the short list.
  4. Only one abstract/presentation submission per applicant will be considered for this award.

Eli Lilly and Company is pleased to offer travelships for eligible individuals presenting papers at the 2014 AAPS Annual Meetingand Exposition,November 2–6, in San Diego.Three travelships are available at $1,700 each for graduate students enrolled at a university in China or for postdoctoral candidatestraveling from China. Recipients will be selected from all the applicants meeting the following eligibility requirements:

  1. Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student at a university in China.
    OR
    Must be a current postdoctoral candidatein China.
  2. Have a paper accepted by one of the three AAPS sections: APQ, FDD, or PPB.

Individuals meeting the criteria for the travelship application must complete an online application form.

Submission Deadline:August 8, 2014 

Applicants whose submitted papers are not accepted by the Paper Screening Committee will be removed from the eligible pool before the award selections are made. Applicants are only allowed to accept one travelship to the annual meeting.

Amgen is pleased to offer travelships for eligible individuals presenting papers at the 2014 AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition, November 2–6, in San Diego. Nine (9) travelships are available at $1,750 each for graduate students. Recipients will be selected from all the applicants meeting the following eligibility requirements:

  1. Must reside in Asia, South America, or Africa
  2. Have a paper accepted by one of the nine AAPS Sections

Individuals meeting the criteria for the travelship application must complete an online application form.

Submission Deadline: August 8, 2014 

Applicants whose submitted papers are not accepted by the Paper Screening Committee will be removed from the eligible pool before the award selections are made. Applicants are only allowed to accept one travelship to the annual meeting.

Note: The reimbursement will be issued to the selected individuals following the AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition upon receipt of documented meeting expenses (e.g., copy of airline ticket, hotel and meal receipts, etc.).

Annual Meeting and Exposition Graduate Student Awards

 AAPS Graduate Student Award in Quality-by-Design and Product Performance

The AAPS Quality-by-Design (QbD) and Product Performance focus group will annually present an award to promote the group's goals to:

  • provide a scientific forum that creates and fosters multidisciplinary collaborations leading to enhanced product performance consistent with predefined objectives for greater patient benefit,
  • leverage, advance, and accelerate science- and risk-based approaches and technologies and develop strategies that link the critical quality attributes, product, process, and patient throughout the product life cycle.

After consultation with the group’s membership at the 2011 AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition, it was decided this would be best achieved by promoting these types of activities in graduate students, since they would then take this type of thinking into future careers and may also stimulate fundamental academic research in this area. Selection will be made on the basis of the student judged by the committee to have provided the most outstanding contributions in the above field through their graduate research. There are no citizenship requirements for this award. All interested candidates are encouraged to apply. Students must be in their final year of graduate studies leading to the doctorate degree (or will be awarded their doctorate in 2014). The student selected will receive a commemorative plaque and a cash award of $1,000.

AAPS Ocular Drug Delivery & Disposition Focus Group Graduate Student Awards

The Ocular Drug Delivery & Disposition focus group (ODDDFG), through the generosity of Bausch & Lomb, are sponsoringannual awards to recognize graduate students presenting outstanding work making significant contributions in the ocular drug deliveryand disposition field. The first place recipient will receive a complimentary registration to attend the 2014 AAPS Annual Meetingand Exposition plus travel reimbursement (up to $1,000 for domestic travel and up to $1,500 for international travel).

AAPS Lipid-based Drug Delivery Graduate Student Award

The AAPS Formulation Design and Development section and the AAPS Lipid-based Drug Delivery Systems focus group, through the generosity of Gattefossé, is sponsoring an annual award to acknowledge excellence in research conducted at graduate level pertaining to the application of lipid excipients in development of novel and effective drug delivery systems for oral and topical routes of administration. The award focuses on recent significant contributions brought about by research that elucidates the role of lipids in drug delivery and thus the effective application of lipid excipients in the development of oral and topical dosage forms. The candidate selected will present his/her research at the 2014 AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition. The selectee will receive a cash award of $1000 and a commemorative plaque. In addition, the awardee will receive a sticker from AAPS indicating his/her work as “award winner” for posting on his/her poster board. The recipient will also be awarded complimentary AAPS Annual Meeting registration and reimbursement of travel expenses ($1000 domestic/$1500 international) after the meeting.
 

AAPS Outstanding Student Chapter of the Year Award

The AAPS Student Chapter of the Year awards recognize student chapters that have provided exceptional service and outreach totheir members and the organization. All student chapter award recipients will receive an award certificate. The top student chapter award recipient will receive $500; the second place student chapter award recipient will receive $300; and the third place student chapter award recipient will receive $200. All monies are to be used at the chapter’s discretion for a group activity. The winners will be announced at the AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition student chapter chairs meeting.
